A Menu in the Works

I hope I've piqued your interest in carrying a cake away from Carrie Cakeaway! I haven't had a chance to show off my specialty yet: cocktail cakes. Name your favorite drink, and I'll do what I can to transform it into a delicious and true-to-the-cocktail cake! Think of these as lovely dinner party desserts, afternoon snacks with a bit of bite, or hair-of-the-dog-that-bit-you hangover cures. While an official menu's still in the works, here's a preview of what you can expect from my naughtier-than-nice cake menu:

Classic Boozy Bundt
While rum cake is perfect for the winter holidays, I think it's great year-round. My classic boozy bundt is a moist yellow cake spiked with dark rum and generously drizzled with a buttery rum glaze and chopped walnuts

Tall, Dark, and Handsome
Dark chocolate cake with bold notes of coffee that's drizzled with an eye-opening Kahlua icing
Layer cake available with Kahlua buttercream frosting

Luck of the Irish
Moist yellow cake infused with Bailey's Irish Cream and topped off with creamy Bailey's glaze
Layer cake available with Bailey's Irish Cream buttercream frosting

Black Russian
Pudding cake infused with vodka and Kahlua that's topped with a dark Kahlua glaze
Layer cake available with Kahlua buttercream frosting
White Russian also available with creamy vanilla glaze or buttercream frosting

Margarita Monday
Refreshing key lime cake infused with tequila or rum that's topped off with a tangy lime glaze and a sprinkle of sea salt
Layer cake available with cream cheese frosting

Pina Colada
Moist pineapple cake spiked with rum and generously drizzled with a coconut rum glaze and sprinkled with shredded coconut
Layer cake available with coconut cream cheese frosting

Lemon Drop
Refreshing lemon cake spiked with vodka and drizzled with a tangy cream cheese glaze and crushed lemon drop candies
Layer cake available with cream cheese frosting

And presenting the Bombshell Bundt Trio:

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Moist yellow cake infused with whiskey and generously drizzled with a buttery bourbon glaze

Red-headed Vixen
Non-traditional red velvet cake spiked with rum and topped with a subtle, rum-dashed cream cheese frosting

One Brazen Brewnette
Rich chocolate cake infused with Guinness stout and crowned with a satiny chocolate stout glaze

Woohoo!

for sale number two!

I received a request for something rich and chocolatey. Rich and chocolatey I can do!

My assistant (who's still too shy to be named and too proud to be called by a faux name) met our second customer in the bustling downtown area of San Francisco by the Powell BART station. That's what I call dealing cake in the city. I mean, I'd totally go out and do it if I, you know, wasn't an intangible figment of some twenty-something baker's imagination and all ;)

So I get to do the fun stuff! And today, the fun stuff included concocting something (almost) heartstoppingly rich and (indeed) sinfully chocolatey.

A rich chocolate fudge cake with a gooey sweet surprise: a butterscotch ribbon slinking straight through the middle. It's lightly drizzled with a milk chocolate glaze and sprinkled with chopped walnuts. In other words, it's a fudge brownie masquerading as a bundt cake and
it.
is.
good.

Well, customer number two, I certainly hope you enjoy the cake and have a big glass of ice cold milk to wash it down with! And sorry in advance about ruining any New Year's resolutions.

Hello, first customer!

Woohoo! We made our first sale today! And by "we," I mean my assistant and I. She does everything from meticulous ingredient-measuring and cake-baking to careful packaging and friendly delivery. What do I do, you ask? Well, only the first and most important part of the process (hm, modesty never was a strength of mine): I come up with the creative cake concepts and recipes. Hey, cut me some slack! I am imaginary, after all...

So my first customer wanted a cake and gave no specific instruction other than that it taste good--wait, scratch that--great. The information I had to work with was that he:
a. loves cinnamon buns and
b. drinks a lot of coffee

That was all the information I needed to conclude that the following would be the perfect cake for him:

Presenting, the Sock-It-to-Me Cake!

And sock it to him I did! A moist yellow cake with a thick ribbon of cinnamon brown sugar swirled through the center, a light drizzle of vanilla icing, and a sprinkle of toasty chopped walnuts, the Sock-It-to-Me is a perfect companion to a hot cup of coffee. What a way to ease into a lazy weekend morning or kick start a busy day at work.

Let's see this from a bird's-eye view, shall we?

Now that's something I (wish I) could sink my teeth into! Yum. Oh, but I wouldn't--and don't worry, customer number one, I didn't!--because, you know, it wouldn't be professional. This is a business, after all ;)

Cheers to a delicious start.
